Six-piece, Australia pop-punk band For Our Hero’s debut 5 track EP ‘Threw the Looking-Glass’ is sure to whet the appetites of followers of Fall Out Boy, All Time Low and Short Stack.
With lyrics reminiscent of Pete Wentz’s own, songs such as "Here’s looking @ You, kid" and "Tell ‘em they’re dreaming" are guaranteed to reflect the feelings of most teenagers today, whereas "Curtain Calls on Walkabouts", with lyrics such as "Sure I have my doubts but father’s so proud..." and "Tell mama I’m a dreamer and father I’m a sinner" explores the pressure kids face from their parents.
It is obvious bands such as All Time Low, Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy have been a big influence on the band’s musical sound. Even Jay Taplin’s vocals are sure to remind listeners of Patrick Stump’s.
Most of the songs are catchy, and are sure to be stuck in your head for days, even when the band diverges from their pop punk sound and goes acoustic on Curtain calls on Walkabouts".
The band, which released the majority of their album on their MySpace page, are already working on B-sides and remixes, many of which are already available on their Tumblr site.
The band has already garnered the attention of more than just the people from their home country, have played with the likes of Short Stack and My Future Lies, on the same stage which All Time Low had occupied only weeks beforehand.
With an ever-growing fanbase, and an EP already under their belt, the band’s future looks bright. Especially if their friends in Short Stack have any say in it. Overall, I’d give the album 8/10. Definitely worth the money.
