Crash Love - AFI

Crash Love - AFI Crash Love cover

Now am I so enthralled that I might die? You should be enthralled. You should be surprised. You should be amazed. You should just buy the CD and die. Die from wonder. Die from amazement. Be so enthralled that you might die, as Torch Song suggests.

It’s been a long and successful eighteen years for the Californian band, AFI. Forming in 1991 they’ve released eight studio albums, as well as the occasional EP. They’ve come a long way from hardcore punk, to horror-punk, melodic hardcore and rocking sounds. Although, it wasn’t until Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground that AFI burst out into the wide world. It was the successes of ‘Girl’s Not Grey’, ‘The Leaving Song Part II’, ‘Miss Murder’ and ‘Love Like Winter’ that brought a whole new range of fans from across the world to revel in the music of A Fire Inside. Myself included.

It’s been two - three years since AFI released Decemberunderground. It’s been a cold, confusing and edgy time for AFI fans, sitting, waiting and wishing for a new release. And it couldn’t come any sooner. AFI released their eight studio album, Crash Love, changing producers but sticking with the same songs and materials. It was released world wide on the 29th September. And I tell you, it was worth the wait.

The lyrics are not as subtle as they once were, the bass has been turned up, competing with Havok's vocals, everything has been taken up to a new level. Speaking about the album's sound, Burgan remarked that, "This is definitely more of a rock album - more immediate and definitely more of a focused, direct approach musically. Compared to Decemberunderground, where some of the songs were more subtle, these are more in-your-face."

This record will never cease to amaze you. Make sure you listen to it with the lights out, rain pounding of your roof, and be amazed to be inspired. You will never forget this record. End Transmission.
