White Lies and Black Hearts - Diesel Phoenix Diesel Phoenix

New Zealand’s music has never been huge on a global scale. Not many bands seem to venture past Australia. There are few and far between who have though. The Midnight Youth, Savage and Stereogram to name a few. There is one Kiwi band though, who have yet to make their mark on New Zealand, Australia and the rest of the world. Diesel Phoenix. A band of five from Auckland, who are doing it all their way.

They’ve propelled themselves into the music industry. Making their luck on MySpace, recruiting fans through friend requests and comments suggesting they go to the band's official website and download ‘White Lies and Black Hearts’ for free, plus, “tell all your friends.” Diesel Phoenix are doing it the way they want. Using their own money for the recording and making of their albums. They only ask for a simple donation, and they’ll make the magic. This is one New Zealand band that you could never forget.

‘White Lies and Black Hearts’ is an album full of angst, emotion and motivation. The songs range from piano solos, guitar solos and different genres. It’s brand new New Zealand rock in the making. “No one understand us, they wouldn’t choose to walk this way.” The first lines in ‘Kick,’ reinforce the way Diesel Phoenix are making their music. Indeed, no one would venture out in the music industry, relying on their own cash, and new fans to help make their records. And of course, maybe no one does understand them, and their need to create the way they are.

The boys in the band are how all members of bands should be. They take the time to listen to the fans, e-mail them all individually with sneak previews, or simply, e-mail them back when a fan emails them. They update fans on a regular basis, reminding them that, “Yes! We are still here! Doing our thing.” They promote causes that are relevant to the teenagers of society, whether it be Canteen, for teenagers with cancer, or as their current tour suggests, the fight to end bullying. These guys are more than eager to support a cause, especially if there’s an opportunity to play in a school and promote themselves, which works quite well.

Their next album will be released on the 31st of October. Halloween. “...it contains 15 true & honest emotional journeys - an introduction, an interlude, and more dirty anthem rock than you can poke your naughty stick at... I can also confirm that the album is called 'Here's Something We Prepared Earlier'...” Says Richard, from DP, in a recent e-mail.

Prepare to be wowed.
