My Chemical Romance in Los Angeles
My Chemical Romance playing at The Roxy in Los Angeles, CA
July 31st, 2009 was easily the best night of the 14 years that I've been alive.
Around 7:30 PM, a little over a hundred My Chemical Romance fans gathered outside The Roxy theater in Los Angeles to gain entrance to the private concert that was going to take place.
We were the lucky ones, the only way inside was to have been invited, which only happened if you were a member of the MCRmy, or if you were the lucky caller who called KROQ and won a pair of tickets.
They had a band, unfortunately, I forget their name, open up for them, they got the crowd pumped, then after waiting for about twenty minutes, Ray came out, followed by Bob and Frank, Mikey and finally, Gerard.
They began with a fan-favorite, from the "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" album, "Give Em' Hell Kid". Once that was over Gerard began speaking about how it was good to be back, he then thanked everyone for going to the show and everyone in the production crew and the people who organized the show.
After that the songs "Cemetery Drive", "The Ghost Of You", "Desolation Row", "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", "Thank You For The Venom", "Mama", "Teenagers", "Cancer", "I Don't Love You", "Headfirst For Halos", "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison", "Famous Last Words", "Welcome To The Black Parade", "Sleep", "This Is How I Disappear", "Dead!", "House Of Wolves" followed. (in no exact order.)
In between songs Gerard would comment about things going on while they were gone, for example at one point during the show he asked, "What the hell did you guys listen to while we were gone?""
Many band names were heard, and finally Gerard replied by formally insulting it, saying it had something to do with cupcakes.
Both Frank and Gerard spat water into the crowd, and one of the members threw three full water bottles into the crowd at Gerard's request because we were thirsty.
Eventually, Gerard wanted to treat us, so he looked around and said, "Lets play some new sh*t" Which only got us even more excited.
Ray nodded and they began to play, in the end they played us three new songs, "The Drugs", "Death Before Disco" and "LA Heavy".
All of which, sound very very amazing and as Gerard said about "Death Before Disco" : "It's a great song to party to."
In the end the band just left, which caused some confusion in the crowd, but a "MCR" chant was enough to bring our beloved band back for an encore, which turned out to be "Helena".
The concert was amazing, it only makes me wish I could go tot he one tonight, as it also only makes me more excited as I wait for their upcoming album.
