I Am Legend
Paperback book cover
After spotting this read on my mothers bookshelf three years ago, I have loved it.
Richard Matheson crafted a well written masterpiece with I Am Legend. My words alone cannot explain how wonderful this book is. Matheson is a truly gifted writer and influential at that, Stephen King quoted: "I think the author who influenced me the most as a writer was Richard Matheson."
The book follows a man, Robert Neville, as he fights to survive because everyone became conformists and wanted to be a vampire. Kidding, they didn't willingly become vampires.
By day he is the hunter, by night he is the lone prey, so we think. In Robert Neville's spare time that isn't spent protecting himself, or killing vampires he is attempting to find a cure.
It is a slow start as he attempts at his day-to-day chores, the nights are hell on his mind as he sits in his boarded up house. Nothing too new for our Mr. Robert Neville by now.
As things begin to conflict as he comes across Ruth. Like most great books, there is some strand of romance in it. Matheson touches this just enough, but not too much to steal the spotlight of his goal with this book.
All books have their endings, ignoring warning signs leads to this climax. A new society is formed, the world is in new order. Robert has attempted to find the cure, and he has become Legend.
Though, I am not telling you exactly what happens. There is so much more to discover in the pages. You will have to read it to find that out. Go, read, set your imaginations free, darlings!
