Cirque du Freak Turning Into Twilight?
Cirque du Freak Movie poster
Before "Twilight" was signed onto a movie contract, it was a great book. Many people read it and loved it. Me and my friends being only a few. Then, Summit Entertainment got a hold of it and it became a huge craze. Some previous Twilight fans grew to hate the books or just the craze, like I have. Then there are the people who started reading the books after the movie came out and after they saw the movie. At my school, the Twilight craze was so big that people who never read unless they had to were reading the series. That's what finally set it off for me, because I had to wait for two of the four books to come out and some of these people were complaining about having to wait for the books from the library or their friends.
Now, one of my favorite book series is the "Cirque du Freak" series by Darren Shan. It's a 12 book saga that pulls you into a completely different way of vampire-thinking. Where vampires don't live forever, don't turn into bats, don't get affected by garlic, can't have kids with anybody, don't spontaneously combust when they walk into the sun, don't have fangs, don't have to kill to drink blood, have mortal enemies that are their cousins, and don't sparkle.
Though, what was bound to happen, as it happens to any really good book series, it is being made into a movie. Universal Pictures got their hands on the books and are now producing the movie "The Vampire's Assistant". I've seen the trailer, and I must say, even though there's a lot more humor than in the book, I give it 5 out of 5 stars so far. My only worry is that it's going to turn into a Twilight type thing.
And I might have to either scream or cry if that happens. To me, this series is one of the greatest I've ever read, and I, along with many other people, I'm sure, would hate to see it turn into a huge craze with obsessed little fans. People have even said things such as "If Twilight isn't enough, there's The Saga of Darren Shan." and things of that nature. That nearly scares me.
