There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood There Will Be Blood

If you loved this movie like so many other people, please, don't hate me for what I have to say.

Why did I go and see this movie? Because everyone said it was amazing and that Daniel Day Lewis was amazing. Personally I thought Paul Dano was more amazing than Daniel Day Lewis.

So I get where the movie is coming from. Oil was written by a socialist. Daniel Plainview was supposed to represent capitalism, Eili Sunday was supposed to represent all what was wrong with the church, and I don't know what Plainview's son, H.W., was supposed to represent (democracy?).

"There Will Be Blood" showed us all the flaws of each of those characters/things, but it did not give us any kind of theoretical solution to overcome any of those things, and it only gave a small bit of insight into todays political world.

So, what, exactly, was the point of the movie? What were the filmmakers trying to get at here?

Don't tell me I should read the book. I'm not asking about the point of the book. I'm looking at the movie as separate from the book. I'm looking at it as it's own entity. So, tell me, what was the point that was trying to be made?

Maybe they were just setting an example for other filmmakers to make four hour long movies. Who knows?
