The Secret Behind The Secret Life of an American Teenager

The Secret Life of an American Teenager is now considered to be one of the top rated and most watched shows in the nation. But why? What is the secret behind the Secret Life? Could it be that we are possibly just addicted to drama? Brenda Hampton, the creator of the Secret Life, made it to represent what she thought was a real teenager's life, and problems that they will face. But one question. How on earth would she know how a teenager's life is today?

We as teens, do have a flair for drama in our lives, but have we ever gone thorugh something that was a farce? It is so over the top and dramatic that it might as well be a soap opera, which many viewers consider it to be.

The main character Amy Jergins acts as if she is a woman. And she is barely a mother! I have been around babies and toddlers for my entire short sixteen years of life, and I for a fact know that not only can they be difficult, but most of the time they are exhausting as well. Yes we enjoy our moments with them, but I think that we can safely agree that becoming a mother doesnt mean that you are older and more mature now, you are just coming into adult hood. It means that you now have more responsibility and you have to work hard to achieve a new understanding and a new level of matureness. It just doesn't come to you.

And then there is Adrian the school whore. Ricky the school man whore. Grace the peppy cheerleader, Ben the gullible sweet guy and Jack, the jock. This is not a story of life, but a stereotypical drama of a teenager's life from an adult's point of view.

I understand and appreciate the fact that its main purpose is to inform teens of teenage pregnacy and its dangers. But how is it that we are supposed to learn if we are having to learn about it in such a comical way that it is nearly unbelievable?
