Neurotically Yours
Foamy the Squirrel
Neurotically Yours was originally a satirical comic series about a dark and brooding girl named Germaine who was an under appreciated poet and often pointed the horrible stereotypes and problems women have to face in society. Germaine was the owner of the angry and vulgar pet squirrel, Foamy. The entire storyline involves many mature themes that should not be taken lightly by those who aren’t comfortable with controversial topics, cursing, and plays on sexuality.
Now, Germaine’s character is a labeled goth who has declared that she has given up trying to resist the common stereotype and the degration women have to face in society. Despite this claim, Germaine continues to have outbursts where she rants about the problems and flaws that continue in the world today. Her well written poetry continues to be ignored, and she continues to live a macabre lifestyle such as visiting graveyards at night and casting spells. She is stalked by a pizza delivery guy named Anchovie, who has a fixated obsession with her.
Foamy is Germaine’s pet squirrel. Far before Fred of YouTube existed, Foamy was the internet icon with the fast and squeaky voice. [He is a squirrel!] Foamy is extremely opinionated. He is quick to temper, and the angrier he gets, the more violent and vulgar he becomes. He has very unique and amusing solutions to everyday problems. Foamy also is the head of the ‘Foaminian Cult’ where followers will bow and worship him. He also has a passion for cream cheese, bagels, and maple syrup. Foamy has three fellow squirrel friends who are also members of his cult and follow his orders.
Pillz-E is another gray squirrel with very thick glasses who speaks even faster than Foamy. He suffers from genetic disability, “eye stigmata”, agoraphobia [Fear of Al Gore], and is constantly on random medications. He is constantly hyper and has an addiction to caffeine. He is impulsive and is a hazard to himself and to all other characters in the series. He also has a knack for voodoo.
Begley is a squirrel with a Mohawk and wears thick eyeliner. He is skilled with a computer, but is hardly ever seen in the series. He is often seen around Germaine, though the reasons are unclear. He speaks with a very thick English accent, like Anchovie. Begley also claims to have been imprisoned for eighteen months for calling the Queen of England a ‘Wanker’.
The Hatta’ is a ‘black’ squirrel whom Foamy met in a dumpster. He speaks in ghetto lingo and has a comb in his ‘afro tail’. He plays on the stereotypes that African Americans suffer, and points out the flaws of White America. He is often the squirrel that rants about the interference that whites impede upon minorities [Such as whites trying to act black.] He also has double standards for racist remarks.
Anchovie is the perverted and creepy stalker that has many jobs that range from fast food to theater ushers. Though Germaine does not date him, Anchovie showers her with admiration. Though his obsession with her seemed harmless at first, it was revealed that he would call her repeatedly and sing that he would kill her, but he loved her.
Franklin is a ‘Starschmucks’ Barista who represents greed in corporate America. He has a very effeminate accent and it is often suggested that he is gay. He also has a disgust to Foamy’s voice and is constantly annoyed by Foamy’s cynical and brutal personality.
Mammed Udi is all the way in India. A victim of practically slave labor, Mammed Udi works as a Tech Support technician. His first appearance was him sending a package in a post office, but his character escalated to an American hating foreigner with a very thick Hindi accent. He often speaks in riddles, asks inappropriate questions, and is in constant anguish at being paid twenty dollars a week and being tortured by a monkey with a stun gun.
The series keeps you in this captivated trance as you listen carefully to the hilarious ideas and schemes that Foamy rants and disturbing bits. It begins with the first ever episode, a very short amateur flash made many years before, and continues onto better animations that steadily improve in quality, audio, comedy, and purpose. You can literally see the improvements that steadily began throughout the series, and it is fun to see the illustrations improve as you continue watching more recent episodes.
The latest episodes have been a bit of a shock. Fed up with the mainstream for the last time, Germaine had changed her outer appearance entirely. She shaved her purple hair, started wearing hideous clothing from the Salvation Army, and started binge eating. She claims it was a way to ‘defeminize’ herself and to escape the grotesque pop culture that made the punk/goth/emo/geek subculture an acceptable and ‘in vogue’ fashion statement. Her new look has cost Neurotically Yours many fans, but has gained much admiration in the underground crowd.
The series has also put subtle hints that a revolution of the punk/goth/emo/geek culture would occur by Germaine’s example, and all those who are true to raging against the machine and fighting the shallow shambles that conformists try to create will continue to be resisted.
“...It’s all meaningless. And to those true punks, goths, and geeks who are unfortunate enough to still be holding onto what once was... Let it. Go. Purple hair doesn’t mean anything anymore. Tattoos don’t mean anything anymore. It’s never going to be the same. Just distance yourself from the shallowness that permeates the genre and just live life without the fear of fitting in. Shave your head! Wear cruddy clothes that are extremely comfortable. And just be your freaking self. The rest of you style stealing jerk bags: Stay away from me!” - Foamy
