Waterloo Road is a television program on BBC1 that is based on a comprehensive school in Rochdale, that fails in many categories. The program follows the lives of teachers and pupils, concentrating on what happens in and about the school.
On the 13th March 2008, the season 3 finale was aired in the UK, apart from Scotland, where it will be airing on 17th March 2008, due to live showing of the UFEA Cup tie.
Eddie Lawson (Deputy Headmaster, played by Neil Morrissey, best known for being Bob the Builder) starts off by checking his mail, where he finds an envelope addressed to him, which he figures is from Stuart Hordley (Blackmailing contractor, played by Silas Carson). Inside the envelope is a newspaper article about Rachel Mason (Headmistress, played by Eva Pope) in her days of being a prostitute. Eddie finds envelopes in all of the teachers mail, and takes them out. He goes to see Rachel, where he 'wants' to see the budget for the PE department, to get her letter from Hordley.
Eddie goes outside to the bins, to get rid of the letters. Later on, a boy who is smoking a cigarette dumps it in the same bin, where he sees the letter, and opens the one addressed to Miss Mason. He takes it away from him, under his jacket.
Taking place in the school is a spelling bee, in which Waterloo Road are facing another school. Waterloo Road win the spelling bee, while Grantly Budgen (Head of English and played by Phillip Martin Brown) talks to a lady from the Examination Board, about plagiarized essays which have very high grades.
When Waterloo Road win the spelling bee, Rachel takes a point to talk about how wonderful her year at Waterloo Road was. Then, Hordley barges into the room and tells the whole school that Rachel was a prostitute, revealing her real name (Amanda Fenshaw, but only revealing Amanda) and making Rachel feel truly upset, after feeling amazing.
Hordley smokes a cigarette outside the school after being taken out, and soon throws it behind into a box full of bin liners. However, the rubber on one of the gas supplies had slipped off, and what else could things do but turn horrible?
The gas started to rise as Rachel, Eddie, Grantly and the lady from the Examination board spoke after Rachel decided she'd leave at the end of the day, which was also the end of term. Soon, a fire was burning the bin liners.
Rachel had knocked Hordley down a flight of stairs, when the fire started to kick in and the fire alarm started to ring.
Davina Shackleton (Teaching Assistant, played by Christine Tremarco) was sorting out Bolton's (Student, played by Tachia Newall) hand after he smacked it into a door on purpose after leaving a classroom because of people laughing about Miss Mason's past. Miss Mason was the only person Bolton had listened to, and Bolton was nearly the only person to still respect her and he wanted to help her in some way. They were in the situation with a bunch of other pupils, trying to get through a door locked with a chain - the only way they could possibly get out, as the fire was coming their way.
Everyone evacuated the school, and Bolton ripped off a metal bar from the ceiling, and managed to get the door handle off the door, where the students got outside. Bolton was left to sort out Davina, who had fallen on the floor, gotten burns and was unconscious.
However, outside the school, Donte (Student and husband to Chlo, played by Adam Thomas) was wondering where Chlo (Student and wife to Donte, played by Katie Griffiths) was. Chlo was in the girls toilets by the canteen which was on fire, and emptied her bag to find her phone. Chlo called Donte, and Donte went to get Chlo, when Celine (Student, played by Zeriozha Burt-Skeete) tells Donte she is pregnant.
Donte goes to find Chlo, getting onto the roof of the school, and found by Tom Clarkson (English teacher and step in father for Chlo and Mika (Student, played by Lauren Drummond) who is played by Jason Done) who also goes to find Chlo. Tom is able to get Chlo out through a window, while Eddie tries to get back into the school to find Rachel.
Rachel walks through the school, covering her mouth with her hands and trying to find any missing pupils. She finds Stuart Hordley lying on the ground, so she decides to drag him out of the school. As she is doing this, part of the roof falls on them, leaving them unconscious on the floor.
The fire fighters try and put out the fire, while Davina is taken into an ambulance with a breathing aid.
The episode (Also season and term) ends showing Hordley and Rachel lying under the rubble on the floor.
Waterloo Road will return in the Winter of 2008 - but who is going to survive?
